New Year, Healthy you....Health Resolutions in 2010.

By Dr Adepeju O Adeniran

It is half way through the first month of the New year January, and it is that time already when many people already start to fall off the Resolution Wagon.

"This early?" you might say, but yes it is true.

Many people's New Year Resolutions begin to fall apart by the end of the second week when they make them. Well documented fact.

So much so, that many people do not bother to make resolutions anymore, year in year out.

Do we really need resolutions? Absolutely. Is the beginning of the year the best time to make them? Well, it is a good as any time to make them.

So, why do resolutions fail? Well, most of them do because people are unaware of the best ways to go about making them.

Health Resolutions, just like any other ones, will fail if you do not know these invaluable life tips. To give your 2010 resolutions a chance at success, you need to know, and follow, these helpful tips.

1. Be Real.

For example;

You want to lose weight? It is a plan, not a wish-desire. Be scientific about it. Weigh yourself. Note what your BMI is; in fact, find out WHAT a BMI is. What is your ideal weight? How much can you lose in a month? What kind of foods are around you? Do you have a food chart?

All of there things make losing weight  a real process as opposed to just a wish. A weight-wish is a desire to lose weight while you watch TV do nothing about it, a weight-loss plan is what you do with charts, plans, goals and documents.

2. Congratulate Yourself.

Simple. Every time you achieve something that you set out to, no matter how small, take your time to enjoy your success, and tell yourself, well done.

3. Spread The Word.

Your resolution has a bigger chance of success if other people are aware of what you are doing, ideally, people with similar challenges or goals to what you are trying to do to.

But even if you cant find such people with the same resolution as you, the fact that you have put your expectations out there, make you less willing to fail. Basically because more people are watching you.

But you must also remember that these people must be positive people, who can encourage and keep you in check if need be.

You must learn to weed out the discouragements and embrace encouragements.
